Zumba Your Way was started by Courtney Hobson. Courtney moved to Lexington, VA in June, 2011, and wanted to continue teaching Zumba but found there wasn’t enough need for her at the local gyms, so she started on her own outside of gyms. She called all of the local dance studios, karate dojos, schools, and churches, looking for space that would accommodate a Zumba class, and made the right connection with the Studio of the Rockbridge Ballet. She started 5 classes a week at the studio and they began to grow to the point where she felt she wouldn’t be able to fit everyone in the room and knew she would have to add more classes. Courtney asked two of her participants to become licensed and help her teach additional classes. Lisa and Tarra became a part of the experience in August and they started the group that Lisa cleverly named, Zumba Your WAY. Zumba Your WAY means your choice of many classes in many locations, at different times with different instructors.

What to Expect in Zumba Class!
Most Zumba classes are one hour long. A Zumba class consists of a warm up and ends with a cool down and some static stretching. You don’t need dance experience to do Zumba! Some of the basic moves are salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton. Participants follow the instructor and learn as they go through repetition. Zumba instructors don’t speak much and cue by using hand signals. If it’s your first time doing Zumba and don’t get the steps the first time, don’t worry! It will get easier after a few classes. Expect to sweat, build cardio strength and tone your muscles!
Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for exercise that allows you to move freely and wear fabrics that are breathable and wick the moisture away from your body. Don’t wear fabrics that don’t breathe.
Shoes should be comfortable with plenty of cushion and lateral support. Some Zumba moves involve twisting and spinning that can put stress on your knees so wearing appropriate shoes during Zumba classes will help you avoid injuries. Running shoes or cross trainers may have too much tread to allow for side-to-side movement. Choose shoes with lesser tread.
Please bring a towel and water to class! Most importantly, have fun and bring your SMILE!!!
